About the author:

Gene Gonzalez, president of Cafe Ysabel, Inc and the Center for Asian Culinary Studies, is a prominent figure in the Philippine culinary scene. He has received several awards for his valuable contribution to Philippine cuisine, among them the Ten Outstanding Young Men award for culinary arts, the Gerry Roxas Foundation award for excellence, and the Hotel and Restaurant Association's Plate d'Or for excellence and dedication to culinary arts.

Gene, who has written food columns and articles for several dailies and magazines and hosted a few culinary TV programs, is called by Fodor's Guide for Southeast Asia as the "high priest of Philippine nouvelle cuisine" for his early introduction of theme restaurants in the country. He is the author of Cocina Sulipeña: Culinary Gems from Pampanga and Anvil Publishing's best-selling Little Books (Pinoy Classic Cuisine Series) that won for a him a special citation from Manila Critics Circle in 2001.
